Sunny tree

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Taken at Loch Morar on the West coast of Scotland. The sun was so bright that day, I didn’t get many good pictures – most were too contrasty. But for this shot of a solitary tree, the harsh shadows worked in black and white. Click on the image to see the print in my Etsy shop.

Campsite robin

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Late in the evening I was relaxing in front of my tent. This robin stopped on the top of a fence post to look around and he was beautifully backlit by the setting sun. The bluebells behind the post made a perfect blue background. Click on the photo to get to my Etsy shop.

Photographing birds at the new finch feeder

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

I finally got round to getting a finch feeder (the type with tiny holes) and a bag of thistle seed to see if I could attract some of the greenfinches and goldfinches I see around.  These are all taken @300mm f/5.6.

First deer I’ve spotted this spring

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Taken at ISO 3200 at the long end of a Sigma 70-300, which explains the grain.  Hopefully I’ll be able to shoot some more in better light.

Golden field

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

I took this near the end of a long walk with a big group of dogs. We were following a path through a field of dried yellow grass. It had been cloudy all day, but finally the sun came out, and the contrast between the golden, shimmering field and the black coats of the dogs inspired me to take the shot.
